Georgia and the Dragon

Was back in Newcastle this weekend, catching up with my cousins who I haven't seen for about 16 years. Wow, has it really been that long!
I caught up with my niece Georgia as well, who still has no idea what to make of her strange 'uncle'. I drew this picture for her that she requested of a dragon.

Trivia Nite scribbles

It's official: Alana and I really are getting worse at trivia. I think our total score is getting less and less each week. Even the trivia host is starting to feel sorry for us :)

Was another great nite tho, with awesome food and atmosphere.

Special thanks to Rohan the cook who bought me a drink last nite - cheers mate!

Trivia Nite scribbles

I'd like to say we're getting better at trivia but that would be seriously stretching the truth. It seems our total score keeps getting lower each week. Give it a few weeks and I wonder if its possible to get a negative number score? Maybe if someone spent more time focusing on the questions and less time scribbling :)

Game Informer - Issue 18 (2 page spread)

The latest illustration for this month's Australian Game Informer.

Peter Rabel - 3d Steambot

Every so often it is a real delight to open your email and find a little surprise waiting for you.

Today I was sent a turnaround video of a 3d model of my Steambot design by very talented Vancouver Film School student, Peter Rabel.

Working from just the illustration, Peter has createdan awesome model of the Steambot. I've attached a few photos of the model and the original concept, but you can also check out his vimeo link for a video of the model.

Segment on Good Game

Seriously, they'll let anyone on television these days. Tonite they even put my ugly mug up on the idiot box to put everyone off their late nite dinners.

ABC's Good Game did a segment on the Artboy vs Fanboy exhibition and interviewed a few of us artists such as Matt Dunn, Dirtfish and myself.

I'll be honest in saying it wasn't as bad as I thought. When it was filmed i was sure i was gradually tipping over from nerves but it didn't seem to translate to what we saw on screen. I can be grateful for that mercy:)

Was really cool though to see Artboy get some great press and have the chance to talk about videogames and art. And to be honest, it was kinda awesome to get to be on a show that I watch on a regular basis and really love. (Just disappointed I didn't get to meet Bajo and Hex!)

For anybody interested the episode can be downloaded from the ABC Good Game website - (2011, Episode 15. 17/5)

Trivia Nite,Scribbles and Pea Soup Fog

It was another pretty cool nite at Trivia. Our favourite haunt up in the mountains in Olinda, with the log fire going and the atmosphere nice and cozy in contrast to the chilly temperature outside. I will also say that Kellys on the Hill have the best parma I have ever had. :)

So tonite our trivia skills were pretty much the usual: that is to say pretty ordinary, but at least we didn't come last this time, and I did get a chance to do a few scribbles whilst we fumbled for our next guess to each question.

And then to cap off a nice little evening we had perhaps the most challenging drive home we've ever had. The mountain was covered in some of the densest fog I've ever seen. We're talking the type of fog straight out of Silent Hill on the playstation 1. It was the type of fog you bring in when the console's processor can't calculate any half decent draw distances (god that is a geeky comment). I managed to get Alana to take a few photos from the passenger seat but I'm not sure they do it justice - at times I could only see about one reflector ahead (navigating by centre of the road reflector strips) and my car has fog lights!

Painting WIP

Two of my new pieces are nearing completion (one a little closer than the other) so i thought I'd post the progress on these two pieces. The paint on my fingers is still wet and leaving marks on the keyboard - sigh :)

Trivia Nite Scribbles

The last few weeks the girlfriend and I have been going to trivia nite at one of our local haunts. We'd actually be quite good at it if it wasn't for the categories of geography, politics, sport, and other basic general knowledge subjects :)

What i have been doing tho, as we procrastinate over what our next guess for the answer is is to just scribble a little with the pen and paper at hand to take my mind off how bad we are at trivia - of course this probably doesn't help contribute to out trivia-ing ability.

Anyway the first few weeks i sort just turfed the sketches, but now i think i might chuck them in as part of this blog. And so with that here's one of my scribbles from trivia the other nite -i'll try and post more each week.
